Bullfrog Power(TM) Offers Renewable Electricity Choice to Ontarians

Coal-fired electricity generation is the largest industrial source of air pollution in Ontario. With the arrival of Bullfrog Power, they now have an option to encourage the production of clean, renewable power from generators that produce no greenhouse gas or smog-inducing emissions.

TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - Bullfrog Power, Ontario's first 100% green electricity retailer, announced that as of today Ontarians have a renewable energy choice. With the launch of Bullfrog Power, Ontario electricity consumers, businesses and non-profit organizations can stop directing their electricity dollars to polluting producers and instead direct their electricity dollars to power produced exclusively from pollution-free wind and low-impact hydro generators that meet or exceed the Federal Government's Environmental Choice (M) Program EcoLogo (M) standard.
Ontario homeowners who choose to become "bullfrog powered (TM)" pay a modest premium for green power that adds about a dollar a day to the average bill - about the same as the price of a bottle of water. Customers continue to draw electricity from the Ontario grid in the same way that they always have, and therefore don't need any special setup or wiring to make the switch. The difference is that their dollars support 100% EcoLogo-certified power generation instead of fossil fuels and nuclear.
Coal-fired electricity generation is the largest industrial source of air pollution in Ontario. With the arrival of Bullfrog Power, they now have an option to encourage the production of clean, renewable power from generators that produce no greenhouse gas or smog-inducing emissions.
"We're focused on providing Ontario consumers with practical energy choices that help create a sustainable world for future generations," said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. "Switching to Bullfrog Power is an easy way to make a meaningful difference."
Bullfrog Power will be bringing new renewable power onto the Ontario grid through a recently signed agreement with wind power generator, Sky Generation. The agreement includes Bullfrog Power funding to co-develop two new wind turbines at Sky Generation's wind farm on Ontario's Bruce Peninsula. "Bullfrog Power and its customers are causing new renewable power production to be built in Ontario. They are taking a leadership role in changing the balance of power," said Glen Estill, Founder of Sky Generation.
Bullfrog Power has also entered into a partnership with WWF-Canada, based on a shared commitment to fight climate change and encourage energy conservation and a switch to renewable sources of power. "Energy efficiency and renewable, non-polluting sources of energy are the keys to fighting climate change and the focus of WWF's global PowerSwitch! Campaign," said Mike Russill, President and CEO of WWF-Canada. "WWF-Canada is thrilled that Bullfrog Power is now available to electricity users in Ontario. We wish Bullfrog Power great success and encourage Ontario residents and companies to learn more about this green alternative."
"Choosing renewable power is a significant personal decision that we have made to help the environment," said Theresa Albert, one of the first residential customers to sign up as a founding Bullfrog 100 customer. "By switching to become a bullfrog powered home, our family is saying no to coal and nuclear, and yes to clean renewable. We care about where our electricity dollars are going, and now, with Bullfrog Power, we have a real choice."
The Bullfrog 100 is a list of residential electricity consumers who have pledged their support for green power. The ranks of the Bullfrog 100 include Michael Adams, Edward Burtynsky, David Crombie, Thomas Homer-Dixon, Jamie Kennedy, Anne Swarbrick, and many more.
Bullfrog Power also announced that several leading organizations including RBC Financial Group, Upper Canada Forestry Products, Warren's Waterless Printing, Toronto and Region Conservation, Hidden Bench Winery, Bruce Mau Design, Butterfield and Robinson, AutoShare, Forest Stewardship
Council of Canada, Green Living Enterprises (a division of Key Publishers), Investeco, Key Gordon, Summerhill Group, Eco Cleaners, Beach Solar Laundromat, Ofootprint and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair have chosen to become bullfrogpowered in some or all of their operations.
